WHO AM I?
My
name is Anna Taylor. I am an active local horsewoman who has clocked
over twenty years in the saddle and ten years teaching experience. I
believe that every rider has the potential to achieve their dreams and
that sometimes all you need is an extra eye on the ground. Combining my
professional and personal interests, I created Phoenix Riding,
person-centred freelance lessons geared towards riders of all ages and
abilities, designed to bring out the best from both horse and
rider.
I grew up in France where I trained for several years with Pascale Obert, before acquiring my first competition pony, Rambo. Under Pascale's tuition, I passed my French riding qualifications up to Galop 7 (approximately equivalent to BHS III). I enjoyed affiliated eventing and show jumping until Rambo's retirement from competitive work. We then discovered an even deeper bond as we explored the forests of Alsace, roaming for hours and galloping across open fields before settling by a river for lunch. Sadly I lost Rambo to uveitis on 02/05/2008 - by then he had long retired from ridden work and was spending most of his days playing and grazing on the South Downs near Brighton.

I was taught to ride classically, however have maintained an open mind throughout my riding career. I enjoy groundwork and hacking as well as dressage, jumping and a bit of cross country! I still take lessons of my own, with BE accredited trainer Penny Sangster. I have a particular fondness for natives and cobs and believe they are often not given enough credit for their athletic abilities and gigantic hearts. At the moment, my two main riding horses are Lucy Locket, a 1998 Shire X Cob mare and Lancelot du Lac, a 2005 Irish Cob gelding. I am also keeping a keen eye on a 2010 Warmblood X Hackney mare, who I am confident will be a super star of the future!
